MIT World FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What software do I need to view MIT World videos?
MIT World videos can be viewed using a standard modern web browser and the Adobe Flash Plugin. If you do not already have it installed, you may download Adobe Flash on the Adobe website.
How long do videos remain available?
Forever. Think of the MIT World collection as a library of contemporary ideas, available whenever you are. This permanent video collection dates back to 2000, with regular publication of new content beginning in 2001.
How can I find videos of interest?
Browse Videos enables you to find videos by topics and speakers, host or series, or review the most recent, most popular, and the editor's picks.
Explore Ideas takes you to a visual display of tags that illustrate concepts and new ideas presented in the collection. The weight of the words in the Video Explorer indicates the number of videos tagged using that particular word.
Can I be notified about new videos?
Register to receive email notification of new videos when they are published. New videos are added weekly. You can also view new content using MIT World RSS feeds for desktop delivery of new MIT World videos. RSS feeds are available for all videos, or only videos belonging to a particular topic.
Are the videos edited?
No. MIT World videos include the entire presentation by the speakers based the underlying principle that it is our role to acquire and publish lectures, but not to edit them.
What if I have trouble with the Adobe Flash player?
In order to view video content from MIT World, you must have Adobe Flash Player Version 9 or greater installed. Flash player is available for Mac, PC, and Linux. The MIT World video player will attempt to update itself to a compatible version if needed. You may or may not need your system administrator to complete this process for you.
If you are attempting to view MIT World content from behind a firewall, (which often happens in corporate and military environments), and the MIT World Flash video player consistently returns a connection error, you should contact your system administrator for support.
